Don't Worry About the Future
10 April 2016

Exodus 16:1-12

We are worried about many things in our lives. We are especially worried about our children. We are worried about their education, marriage, & many other things of their lives. Businessmen are worried because of their financial issues. They are worried about the expansion of their businesses. They are worried about their company's moving to another location. People who are unemployed are worried about how to find new jobs. Many of you are worried about your health. Our lives are filled with many worries and anxiety.

Why are our lives filled with many worries and anxiety? It is because we don't know about our future. If we can see our future and can also see of how our current problems will be resolved in the future, we would not worry about anything right now.

I know that many of you love watching football games. When you watch your favorite team's game, you are so tense because you want your team to win that game. Why are you tense when you watch the game? It is because you don't know the result of the game. But if you watch a game on TV that was already recorded, you are not tense at all because you know the result of the game. We are worried about many things in our lives. Why? It is because we don't know about our future.

In today's passage, we find that the Israelites are worried about their future. In today's passage, we find that the Israelites run out of their food. About two months and a half ago, they came out of Egypt. When they came out of it, they brought their food. But in today's passage, we find that the Israelites run out of their food. When they run out of food, they are worried about their future. Verse 3 says, "We should have died by the Lord's hand in the land of Egypt. When we sat by the pots of meat and ate all the bread we wanted, for you have brought us out into this desert to kill all of us with hunger." The Israelites are worried that they would starve and eventually die in the desert in the near future. They are worried about their lives in the desert. They are worried about their future.

God knows that the Israelites run out of food. In fact, He already knew that the Israelites would have a hard time since they had come out of Egypt. He knew that they would face many problems in the desert. He knew that they would have a hard time because of the sun light during the day in the desert and so he provided the pillar of cloud to them. He knew that they would also have a hard time during the night and so he provided the pillar of fire to them. When they were thirsty, he made the water come out of the rock. He let the Israelites rest at an Oasis named Elim. He supplied their needs.

The Israelites have received all these blessings from God. They have already experienced God's protection and guidance in the desert. Even though they have experienced God's blessings so far, they were so worried when they ran out of their food. They complained about their situation to Moses. Verses 7, 8 and 12 say that God heard their complaints.

One day, Jesus preached to 5,000 men. While he preached, it became dark and the people were hungry. The disciples of Jesus thought that it was impossible to feed those people. They asked Jesus to send the people back to their homes right away. Then Jesus told the disciples to feed the people themselves. The disciples were shocked when they heard it. They asked of Jesus how they could feed those many people. They were worried about the situation.

Our lives are filled with many worries and anxiety. Maybe some of you are currently having a hard time because of a hardship in your life. Maybe you complain about your situation to others and even to God. I know that most of you are worried about your future. You are worried because you don't know what will happen to you in your future. You are often worried about your future. Instead of worrying about your future, you have to have a hope. You have to have the expectation that God will help you. You have to have faith that God will do something great for you in the near future. When you pray to God with faith, he will be pleased with your prayer of faith. He will surely answer your heart's desire.

When I carried out God's mission work in Indonesia as a missionary, I met a Korean business man named Mr. Sanghak Kang. Mr. Kang ran a sewing factory in Indonesia. He had over 2,000 employees in his company. Mary and I were invited to his house several times for meals. God blessed him and his business gradually thrived.

However, one day, his business partner played a trick on him. That business partner swindled a large sum of money. That business partner took the money from his company and ran away. Mr. Kang faced some financial issues. Due to those financial issues, he couldn't make any payments to his subcontracting companies for over half a year. Those small companies sued him. He also couldn't pay the salaries of his employees for a couple of months. Some of his employees also sued him. He was arrested and was tried in court. He was put into a prison for 6 months. While he was in that prison, I went to see him in the prison.

The weather of Indonesia is very hot. It is usually over 110 degrees during the day. Mr. Kang was in his mid 60's. He had a hard time in prison. He didn't understand why he and his family had to suffer because of the fraud of his business partner. He was worried about the future of his company. But he never gave up. He believed that God would eventually bless him. He believed that God would revive his company. With that faith, he read the Bible from cover to cover several times. He prayed very hard. 6 months later, he was released from that prison. He went back to his family and his company. He worked very hard at his company. One day, he made a big contract with a famous clothing company in the United States with the help of his son who lived in San Francisco. It was God's answer and blessing for him. With that contract, his business was able to successfully revive.

Are you worried about your future? Are you worried of how things will be going on in the future? Are you worried that you would experience a failure? You have to have a hope. When you have faith in God, He will give you wisdom. He will send you some people to help you. He will turn the situation around for you.

When the Israelites are worried because they run out of their food, God provided the food to them. Verse 4 says, "Then the Lord said to Moses, "See, I will rain bread from heaven for you. The people will go out and gather a day's share every day." God fed the Israelites the quails and manna while they stayed in the desert. As God provided the food to the Israelites, he also supplies for your needs.

David Smith wrote a book named "How Can I Ask God for Physical Healing". In his book, he introduces a story of a woman missionary who carried out God's mission work in the outback in a foreign country. While she stayed in that place, she became physically sick. She was distressed.

She knew that she needed to eat well to get well from her disease. She knew that she needed some proper nutrition for herself. She wanted to eat fresh vegetables, fish and meats. But she couldn't get those fresh food for her in the place where she stayed. She claimed that God would supply her need. She asked God to provide some food and some medicines to her.

One day she received several large boxes of Scotch oatmeal. A business person in another part of the country sent them to her. She asked God for some delicious food, not the oatmeal. She was disappointed with the oatmeal. Since she didn't have any other food except the oatmeal, she ate them with milk every day for four weeks. As she continued to eat the oatmeal, they seemed to agree with her body. After four weeks, she felt in excellent health. Some time later, a mission team visited her place. There was a medical doctor in that mission team. The doctor checked up the missionary's body. The missionary said that she ate oatmeal for the past four weeks. The doctor then said: "The Lord heard your prayer and supplied your need more truly than you realize. For the sickness from which you were suffering, we physicians prescribe a four weeks' diet of nothing but oatmeal gruel for our patients. The Lord prescribed it for you and saw to it that that was all you took. It was the proper remedy."

Four weeks ago, the missionary was worried about her disease. She was worried because she didn't have the proper nutrition for herself. When she received the oatmeal, she was disappointed. But it was God's perfect prescription for her. God supplied her need at that time.

There was a man who went through many hardships in his life. When he was 10 year old, his mother passed away. Some years later, his older sister also passed away. His business went bankrupt. He had to pay the debts off for 17 years. Meanwhile, one day, his son passed away. People said that there was no hope in his life. They thought that he would commit suicide due to his despairing situation. They hid all the knives and scissors from him so that he couldn't commit suicide. If you know this man, how can you comfort and encourage him? However, this man tried his best to overcome his situation. He believed that God would bless him in the near future. He had faith that God would fill his life with abundant blessings. Later, he became a senator. He became a president of the United States. He was Abraham Lincoln.

Are you currently going through a hardship in your life? Are you worried about your future? Are you worried of how things will be going on in the future? Have faith in God. Believe that God will bless you. Believe that God will supply all your needs. Believe that God will do something great in your future.
